This was a sniper rifle. The wood has just a few light marks. The bluing is good. The bore is excellent. All serial numbers match and the scope serial number is on the wrist. Comes with the wooden transit chest No. 15 Mk. 1. Both of the leather carrying straps are broken on the transit chest and the bottom has 5 good cracks in the wood.
The MAIN things to watch for are:
Was this ever a real sniper rifle?
Are the numbers matching?
1. *Rifle serial number on body.
2. *Rifle serial number on bolt.
3. Rifle serial number on underside of the forestock near the front.
4. Rifle serial number may be on magazine (post-war.
5. *Rifle serial number may be on the scope bracket.
6. *Scope serial number on scope.
7. *Scope serial number on wrist of rifle.
8. Scope case should have serial number of rifle and scope (except for Canadian No. 8 MK. 2 canvas cases).
9. Wooden transit chest No. 15 MK. I – may have serial number of rifle, usually on a paper tag at one end, held in a metal frame. Occasionally the serial number of the rifle, and rarely, of the scope, were stencilled onto the chest. Those serial numbers with” * ” beside the number are the most important for matching. This was taken from WWW.CAPTAINSTEVENS.com web page and they are all correct except number 8 - there is no scope cover and number 9 has the paper tag, but not in a metal frame and the gun serial number is hand written.
Gun has not been test fired or inspected by a gunsmith. Action works correctly to the best of our knowledge. We do not clean guns and recommend a thorough cleaning before use.
