Rare British Blunder Buss Muskatoon Rifle make by John Knubley, gun maker to the Royal Family of England (1786-1797).
"John Knubley began his career as a gunmaker in the county of Yorkshire in the 1760s before moving his business to London where he is recorded at two addresses on Charing Cross between 1786 and 1794. He became gunmaker to the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Clarence and Prince Edward, and was a contractor to Ordnance between 1790 and 1794. Upon his death in 1795 his business was taken over by Samuel Brunn and continued trading as Knubley & Co. or Knubley & Brunn until 1797." Ancestry Guns.com

The Knubley name is highly collectible in early English arms, and this example displays the bold, classic form associated with period coaching, trade, or defensive black powder arms. The photos show an attractive aged patina to the brass barrel, expected finish wear and age to the lock and metal components, and honest wear to the wooden stock from handling and time.

This is a visually impressive antique firearm with strong collector and display appeal, particularly with the Knubley maker marking present. Scarce and desirable early flintlock arm by a noted British maker, well suited to antique firearms, militaria, and early English arms collections.

Stock shows few scratches and scuffs, few light dings and dents, few tiny chips. There are repairs on the right side of the stock whereby a piece has been added and there is a long (13") hairline crack. There are also two fine hairline cracks in front of lock plate on the right side. On the left side there is a repair (wood piece has been added), few small chips by the butt plate area. Condition is very good for age.
Brass/metal finish shows light scuffs, fine scratches, little patina and tarnish, few small dings; condition is very good for age.
Bore shows good for age.
